Mrs. Taylor's letter to parents in the Warrior Weekly August 11, 2010.

History of Covenant Christian High School’s use of the graphing calculator educational tool:

·         AP Physics and Calculus has been using the TI-Nspire CAS regularly since 2007 and has enjoyed the regular updates and improvements.

·         AP Physics and Calculus used the TI-89 from 1999-2007. This is a CAS device.

·         TI-83/84 was welcomed in Mr. Bird 1st year physics class since 1998. In 2008 Mr. Bird began using the TI-Nspire CAS regularly with his 1st year physics students.

·         The TI-83/84 was required in Algebra 2 and Trig/Precalc since the school began offering these courses.

“Covenant has always tried to stay up-to-date with educational technology and we are entering a transition period as we switch from an older model to a newer model of graphing calculator.”

We are committed to phasing in the use of TI-Nspire Math and Science Learning Technology

For clarification to the FAQ “Are students required to own their own TI-Nspire CAS for 1st year Physics?”

Answer: No.

(1) They can use one of the class set while they are in class. (2) They are welcome to use a TI-Nspire.  Note: Studies have shown that students do better in class and on test scores when they have their own graphing calculator for school and home.

By 2011-2012 the TI-Nspire will be required in Algebra 2 and Trig/Precalculus

The following table shows the exam acceptance. The TI-Nspire CAS and TI-Nspire are permitted or required on a number of tests.
