Flatt Joins Push to Provide Shoes for Shoeless
Last January, IUPUI head men's basketball coach, Ron Hunter, made national news when he partnered with Samaritan's Feet in an effort to raise money and donated shoes to provide shoes to the many impoverished children around the world that daily go without shoes.  Coach Hunter coached a game barefoot last year to raise awareness.  Hunter's and other's efforts led to more than 200,000 pairs of shoes being delivered to needy children.  This year, Coach Hunter is again coaching a game in his bare feet, and has asked basketball coaches all across the country to coach that night without shoes.  CCHS coach Scott Flatt has agreed to help this cause along with Guerin Catholic coach Pete Smith on Saturday, January 17th, as the Golden Eagles host the Warriors.  There will also be a collection of both shoes and monetary funds for this effort at the game that night.  The goal of this whole collective initiative is to raise 1 million shoes.

"Samaritan's Feet is a non-profit humanitarian relief organization dedicated to to taking a life-changing message of hope and equipping the feet of impoverished children in the US and around the world with shoes.  Our goal is to provide 10 million pairs of shoes for 10 million impoverished people in 10 years.  To date, nearly one million pairs of shoes for children around the world have been collected.  Their focus is on children from the USA, Aftica, South America, and the Caribbean.  In addition, they have distributed shoes in over 42 other countries including, Tsunami-Sri Lanka, Romania, Ukraine, Haiti, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ecuador, South Aftica, Jamaica, Guyana, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Malawi, Gambia, and Burundi."  Courtesy of www.samaritansfeet.org.
