Leyden Named to Star's Super Team11/14/2008Senior Blake Leyden was named to the Indianapolis Star's 2008 Boys' Soccer Super Team, which was released in this morning's paper. The team is made up of the best players in the Greater Indianapolis/Central Indiana area. Leyden, who is planning on attending and playing for Butler University next year, led Covenant this season with 27 goals and 7 assists. He has also been named to the All-District Team, All-Academic Team, the Star's All-City Player of the Year, and the team's Golden Boot Award winner.
Smith Signs Letter of Intent11/12/2008
Senior Andrew Smith signed his national letter of intent this morning to attend and play basketball at Butler University next year. Smith, a 6'8" center, signed the letter in a morning assembly with the entire CCHS student body, in a ceremony attended by family, friends, the CCHS coaching staff, Smith's former coaches, and the media. Smith's signing marks the first Division 1 full-ride scholarship in Covenant's athletic history. Smith averaged 14.5 ppg, 10.2 rpg, and 2.8 apg. Smith was also recruited and/or offered scholarships from Liberty, Drake, Ohio, Miami (Ohio), Central Michigan, Valparaiso, Michigan, Columbia, Indiana Wesleyan, and Penn State. Smith is among a small handful of the area's top recruits expected to sign during this early signing period including, Lawrence North's Jeff Robinson (Purdue) and Stehan Van Treese (Louisville), Franklin Central's Patrick Bade (Purdue), and Cathedral's Kelsey Barlow (Purdue). Covenant's boys' basketball coach, Scott Flatt, praised Andrew for his work ethic and commitment, as well as several other faculty members honoring Smith for his commitment to family and relationship to Jesus Christ.
