Music Department
The Covenant Christian High School music department is a unique and dynamic program that emphasizes well-rounded musicianship and academic excellence both in the classroom and on the concert stage. Over one third of the student body participates in one of Covenant's five performing ensembles, each of which is characterized by its varied repertoire, exceptional performance opportunities, and emphasis on academic standards. The students that comprise the music program are diverse in their talents and interests, and the music department's experienced faculty works hard to give each student the individual attention and instruction they need to excel.
- Over one-third of the student body is enrolled in an ensemble at Covenant.
- The average attendance for a CCHS concert is between 300-500 people.
- Our program has consistently earned gold ratings at ISSMA competitions throughout the year.
- Several of our students have received large music scholarships at prestigious universities.
The music department believes, first and foremost, that music is a gift from God. It is a unique and wondrous part of His vast creation that should be experienced, valued, appreciated, studied, pondered, questioned, enjoyed, and loved. The Lord gave us this gift as a tool to praise and commune with Him, and therefore, the study of music is vital to the Christian experience. Likewise, the music department believes that music is an essential part of the well-rounded education of each person. Music is a universal language of communication; it is a way that human beings share their deepest feelings, passions, hopes, fears, doubts, despairs, triumphs, etc. Our students are encouraged not to treat music as something to be consumed, but as something to be revered and honored. The study of music is the study of the human soul.
